Bell Atlantic StatLAN Oacis is a clinical information system designed tohelp improve the quality and cost of patient care by gathering,integrating and synthesizing all data that are generated during a courseof treatment. Longitudinal in nature, the product allows clinicians toaccess this information over time, providing a lifetime electronicclinical record. A network gateway component is used to facilitatecommunication between information systems, and to populate a repositorywith data from all systems (e.g., laboratory, pharmacy, respiratorytherapy) which exist within the healthcare enterprise. The datarepository stores data in a format that permits easy retrieval anddynamic integration of data. Oacis employs unique informationengineering principles (e.g., smart summarization, intuitive navigation)to create a fast, easy-to-learn clinical display.
